Real Men Walk With Him |
Do you not know that our greatest heart’s desire should be to enter into an intimate heart relationship with God through faith in His Son Jesus. Hebrews 10:22 tells us to draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings…” And how do we enter into an intimate heart relationship with God? It’s easy, Romans 10:9, 10 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” This is not something that we just do on a Sunday morning after a soul stirring message. In one of A. W. Tozer's sermons he stated that the goal of every Christian should be to "live in a state of unbroken worship." Tozer was an outstanding preacher and an outspoken critic on religiosity. Our all-consuming focus is making God our everything, knowing Him, hearing His voice, sharing our hearts with Him, communicating with Him, and seeking to please Him. Fellowshipping with Him is what we live for. And the only way this is possible is when we walk with God.
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). When we decided to walk with God it meant that we are in agreement with God about your life. Just as Enoch and Noah walked with God we too are going to have to align our will with His will and seek Him every day to consider ourselves “crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20). I have two Podcast shows that I do each week, and one of them I end with this same scripture after I open the invitation to accept Christ, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” I never close that show without allowing my listeners a chance to receive salvation. People must understand that perfection is not a requirement, because none of us are perfect, Romans 3:10 tells us that, As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one”).
If I were to ask you right now what is your heart's desire? What would your answer be? If it’s not to be pleasing to God, and willing to allow His Spirit to conform you to the image of His Son Jesus, as stated in Romans 8:29 “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son…” then I suggest reevaluating your current status, and examine what it is your heart’s desire is focused on. We all say that we love God. We all say that we want to please Him. We all say that we want to obey God. But does our actions and the way we walk exemplify what we say?
Are we really walking with God in a way that others can see that our lifestyle can no longer be questioned? There was no question as to how Enoch and Noah lived. Many people today that claim they are “Christians” still walk in the ways of the world. You cannot walk with God and still walk in the ways of the world:
- 2 Kings 8:27 “And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab, for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab. You have to be very careful who you attach yourself too.” You cannot walk in the ways of the world, even if it's in your household.
- Ephesians 2:1, 2 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”
- Colossians 3:7: “You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.” When the Bible speaks of "walking," it often refers to a lifestyle.
Walking with God is often called “walking in the Spirit” in the New Testament, Galatians 5:16 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” and Romans 8:4 “that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
