How Much Will It Cost You To Walk With God?
Regardless of personal cost, to walk with God means choosing to glorify Him in every way we can. And there is a cost. Walking with God also means giving up many of the people we used to hang out with and those we still hang out with, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly…” (Psalms. 1:1a).
It is not difficult to identify people who walk with God. Their lives are a stark contrast to the world around them, like lights in a dark place Philippians 2:15 “that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world”. People that walk with God produce the fruit of the Spirit rather than the fruit of fleshly desires, Galatians 5:22 “Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness”; Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambition, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God”.
In Acts 4:13 Peter and John had been arrested for preaching and were brought before the authorities. "The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus." When we walk with God every day, the world cannot help but recognize that, in spite of our imperfections and lack of knowledge in some areas, we have been with Jesus.
If those that truly walk with God don’t stand up for what is right then California will be the first state to ban the preaching that homosexuality is a sin. It will be against the law. By nature, because of our sinful nature, we are cut off from God, reason being many have sinned and turned their backs on Him. But when we come to Christ and commit our lives to Him, all of our sins are cleansed by God, and we are no longer separated from Him. Instead, He makes us part of His family, and we become His children forever. The Bible says in Romans 8:17, “Now if we are [God’s] children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ”.
In closing...
How do we walk with God and grow closer to Him and have the type of relationship that draws others? The most important way is by spending time with Him—listening to Him as He speaks to us through His word, and talking with Him in prayer. Just as human friendships wither and die if we never spend time together, so our relationship with God will grow cold if we never spend time with Him. Set aside time every day—even if it’s only a few minutes at first—to be alone with God. Christ is with us every moment of the day! Even when we’re busy, we can still talk with Him and follow Him. Jesus said, “I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
