What's the Church for?

Image
What’s the purpose of the church? I tend to believe that Acts 2:42 could possibly be considered a purpose statement for the church: "They devoted themselves to the apostle's teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." According to this verse, the four purposes/activities of the church should be;      1) teaching biblical doctrine      2) providing a place of fellowship for believers      3) observing the Lord's supper      4) an to praying 1. The church is to teach biblical doctrine so we can be grounded in our faith. Ephesians 4:14 tells us, "Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming." And in 1 Peter 2:2 Peter encourages them crave and hungry after the word, “as newborn babes, desire the pu...

What? You're A Virgin?!

What? You're A Virgins?! The Parable of the Ten Virgins ( Matthew 25:1–13 ) Be Proud of Being a Virgin! Why is it that being a virgin is such a big phenomenon today? Young people are being shamed in school among their friends if they are still a virgin.  When has being a virgin become such a shame? Young boys and young girls are being pressured into sexual relationships that they are not ready for nor able to handle after the fact. They are not ready for the flood of emotions that come with having sex.  But yet, because of their friends, that claim that they have had sex, tease them for still being a virgin, they succumb to the laughter and either lie that they too have had sex, or end up having sex with someone looking for bragging rights. If families would take more interest in their children's lives, I tend to believe that the numbers would increase on one side and decrease on the other. The scales would tip in favor of those that are still virgins. And ...

Fake Christians!

Image
Fake Christians!   Are there really fake Christians?   I don’t know about you, but I know I have used that term quite a few times in my day. I see somebody perpetuating like they godly and their lifestyle is hellish. So, let’s look at this a little deeper. What is your definition of what a Christian is or is supposed to be? Do you have a certain conjecture of what it is to being a Christian? I’m sure many of you do. And I’m sure, like myself, you have called someone a “fake Christian” before. Somebody may have even called you a fake Christian. Why would someone call you a fake Christian, unless you were caught doing something that was considered sinful. And isn't it amazing that those who are not Christians are the first to call someone a fake Christian? They must know something. A true Christian is one that has, by faith, received Jesus Christ into their heart, and fully trust in Him as their only Lord and Savior from their sin ( John 3:16 “For God so lov...

Why Should I?

Why Should I Commit? Why is it that we men have had a hard time with the word commitment? For lack of a better word, I would be the first to say it’s because of fear. You will find in the Bible, and in various aspects of life, there are numerous references addressing Christian commitment: to God, to church, to employers, to friends, to a relationship, to our families, in all the things we say and do ( Hebrews 10:25 “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near”; and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s”).  The Bible also teaches that our chief commitment in life is to God Himself. Jesus said in Matthew 22:37-38 , “You shall love the Lord your God with a...
